Chaffin/Light Associates' most recent east coast project, Spring Island, near Beaufort, South Carolina, is the sister project of the Balsam Mountain Preserve, and has won numerous awards and further recognition for its implementation of low-impact, environmently sensitive development practices. Chaffin/Light Associates is enhancing those practices at Balsam Mountain Preserve. From 1968 through early 1978, Chaffin and Light were employed in various positions with The Sea Pines Company, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. During this decade, the company grew dramatically - expanding within the original 5,000-acre Sea Pines Plantation, starting five new communities for the company's account, and managing three new companies for others. Chaffin and Light were personally involved in the planning, design, development, sales, and marketing of all nine communities and their amenities. For the 1975 to 1978 period, Light served as President and Chaffin was the Senior Vice President for Marketing and Sales. Light and Chaffin have been equal partners since 1978, and have since formed and managed various single-purpose entities. These companies have undertaken community developments in Colorado, Washington, South Carolina, and Florida. Each Chaffin/Light Associates development is capitalized seperately, instead of being owned by a holding company, so central office staffing is limited. An experienced general manager or managing partner operates each Chaffin/Light Associates development, and each has bottom line incentives or ownership in the company he is running. Careful planning, extraordinary quality and environmental sensitivity are cornerstones of Chaffin/Light Associates developments. |
